Sharon Krebs

Sharon Krebs holds degrees in Human Physiology, Science Education, and Germanic Studies. An active independent scholar, she has lectured in
Austria, Germany, France and North America. Her published articles
encompass topics ranging from music education in the public schools of
British Columbia to Bertolt Brecht. A book article entitled "Adelbert von
Chamissos Thränen. Die musikalische Rezeption des Gedichtzyklus" is
forthcoming.
A significant research interest is the 19th-century song composer Josephine Lang. Sharon maintains two Lang websites
(http://mugi.hfmt-hamburg.de/A_lexartikel/lexartikel.php?id=lang1815 and http://www.wlb-stuttgart.de/index.php?id=1992). A book entitled Josephine Lang: Her Life and Songs (co-authored with Harald Krebs) appeared with Oxford University press in 2007, and her most recent publication, "Josephine Lang and her Women Poets," appeared in the spring of 2011.
Sharon is also a singer; she has performed in Germany, Poland, France, England, Wales, the US, and Canada. She is currently researching the nightingale metaphor in German literature and investigating how the metaphor can inform Lied performance.
