Teachers of Voice and Collaborative Piano
To teach song is to engage Poetry, Philosophy, History, Dramatic Recitation, Musicology, Psychology, as well as the traditional challenges of technical and stage craft. Join the VISI experience at a Retreat exploring innovative interdisciplinary pedagogy in Art Song Interpretation and Practices. An array of lecturers and artists share ideas and inspirations, concerts and conversations.
PROFESSOR SCOTT MCCOY, President of NATS, Professor of Voice and Pedagogy, Director of the Presser Music Center Voice Laboratory, and author of the voice science and pedagogy textbook, Your Voice: An Inside View is among our many distinguished speakers, also including PROFESSORS ROSEMARIE LANDRY, DARRYL EDWARDS, SIMA GODFREY, BENJAMIN BINDER and FRANÇOIS LE ROUX, Director of the Centre de la Mélodie Française, as well as experts in the many fields of Art Song interest. VISI is a banquet for the mind, heart and imagination, a meeting place to consider and offer new tools for your continuing work. The open, supportive atmosphere encourages conversation among all faculty and participants, offering many opportunities for in-depth discussion with your colleagues.
The complete schedule of events includes auditing of masterclasses with visiting artists such as singers Julie Simson , Benjamin Butterfield, Rosemarie Landry, and François LeRoux, pianists Cameron Stowe and Kenneth Griffiths, and more. Exploration and discussion of the pedagogy and philosophy of theatre elements in Art Song will be highlighted, as will sessions on teaching creative collaborative partnership skills, and the psychological and ethical questions that emerge when deep artistic training challenges interpersonal boundaries. Please check our website for a detailed calendar.
The repertoire focus at VISI 2010 includes several immersion courses: The Romantic worldview of Robert Schumann and his creative legacy, the Surrealist movement and French Mélodie, and the songs of Samuel Barber.
