Two special events to kick start the SONGFIRE Festival (FREE!)
The SONGFIRE Festival welcomes composers, poets, and performers to share songs of today and tomorrow! Interactive workshops, concerts, and presentations shed light on the music of our times.
The SONGFIRE Festival lights up 100 candles for Benjamin Britten!
From folk arrangements to cabaret songs, lullabies to settings of Auden’s poetry, and even realisations of Purcell, Britten's contribution to art song seems infinite. In addition to fabulous concerts, a series of masterclasses on Britten's songs will be given by pianist Graham Johnson (June 10-14).

French un peu rusty? All concerts include projected translations of the wonderful poetic-musical fusions.
English masterclasses by Rosemarie Landry, Bruno Laplante and François Le Roux, and lectures by Prof. Sima Godfrey of UBC's Dept. of French, Hispanic and Italian Studies offer deep immersion into the world of Mélodie!
Experience the world's first Art Song Theatre Apprenticeship - introduced at VISI in 2011- as Art Song moves from recital hall to theatrical stage. SONGFIRE™ Theatre breaks new ground in the presentation of Art Song, bringing the highest creative standards to a new canon of multi-media works.
